Mewing

What on Earth is Mewing?

Imagine for a moment that something as simple as changing the position of your tongue could potentially improve your facial structure, your attractiveness and even your breathing.

Going from this to that:

Sounds like something out of a fairy tale, right?

So How Does It Work?

Mewing is about optimising the posture of your tongue.

  1. Close your mouth and Relax.

  2. Flatten your tongue and place it against the roof of the mouth.

  3. Move the tip of the tongue behind your teeth without touching. Your tongue should be roughly in the position it goes to when you make an “n” sound.

  4. Hold for as long as you can. Start with a short duration: 10-20 seconds. As you continue to mew, increase your duration to 30 seconds, then a minute, then longer and longer.

  5. Repeat this exercise multiple times a day. Get used to doing this exercise throughout the day and mewing will become natural after a short while.

Here you find a Mewing beginner Guide.

The Science Behind Mewing:

According to Dr. John Mew and his son, Dr. Mike Mew, improper oral posture, such as:

  • mouth breathing

  • a low tongue position

  • inadequate chewing

contributes to what they consider suboptimal facial development. This includes:

By correcting oral posture through mewing — which involves:

  • keeping the tongue pressed against the roof of the mouth

  • lips together

  • teeth gently touching
